Reconfigured as a French-American duo, Powerdove is releasing its fifth album and it’s a dazzling balance of diaphanous melodies and explosive arrangements, at once poppy and in-your-face experimental. Conceived on the Aegean Sea, the staggeringly beautiful songs of 'Machination' suggest high-precision mechanisms that have been expertly tweaked to register the pulse of a hypersensitive and mineral form of songwriting.

Courant 2019, Annie Lewandowski s'en va dix semaines sur la mer Égée où ballottée par les rafales et les coups de vent, elle écrit les chansons sidérantes et dévastatrices de beauté, que l'on découvre aujourd'hui sur le nouveau disque de Powerdove, 'Machination’. Des chansons qui, sondant d'une voix calme l'amour et la solitude, la mémoire et l'oubli, l'étrange et le familier, atteignent une texture émotionnelle inouïe à la faveur du dialogue avec Thomas Bonvalet, allié de longue date et arrangeur turbulent. Désormais concentré en duo, Powerdove accuse comme jamais les personnalités très contrastées de Lewandowski et Bonvalet, ici révélées et magnifiées au gré de détails éblouissants. De la chaleur rayonnante de "Frost Broken Willow" au sentiment de perte écrasante "Someone Else", ‘Machination' éclaire Powerdove d'une lumière neuve. "Parfois beau, parfois détonnant, mais toujours transcendant." (BBC Radio 3).
